Job Description
As an Artificial Technology Intern, you will work under the supervision of relevant UNEP staff within the assigned unit. The internship will focus on the design, development, analysis, and deployment of technology-driven solutions, using artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in support of UNEP’s environmental objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- AI and Machine Learning Support
- Assist in researching, designing, and developing AI-driven models for data classification, prediction, or analysis of environmental trends.
- Contribute to the training, validation, and fine-tuning of AI models using real-world environmental datasets.
- Explore the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) for document and knowledge management systems.
- Data Collection and Processing
- Support the identification, collection, and preprocessing of environmental datasets from various sources.
- Assist in data cleaning, transformation, and structuring for AI model development.
- Visualize data insights and support dashboard creation for internal and external use.
- Technology Research and Analysis
- Conduct literature reviews and compile best practices related to the use of artificial technology in environmental contexts.
- Analyze trends in AI and digital innovation relevant to sustainable development and UNEP’s mandates.
- Provide briefing notes or reports on new technological tools and their applicability to UNEP’s work.
- Prototype Development and Testing
- Assist in building prototypes or proof-of-concept solutions that integrate AI or automation to enhance decision-making processes.
- Test and validate AI tools for functionality, reliability, and environmental relevance.
- Support the documentation and demonstration of prototypes to various UNEP teams and stakeholders.
- Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
- Work with UNEP divisions and partners to understand user requirements for AI solutions.
- Attend internal and external meetings or webinars related to environmental technology and innovation.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms, documentation, and training resources.
- Support Project Implementation
- Support the integration of AI tools in ongoing UNEP initiatives, including those related to monitoring, reporting, and forecasting.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams, providing technical and analytical input.
- Provide support in preparing project proposals and presentations involving artificial technology applications.
- Administrative and Organizational Support
- Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, or consultations involving AI and digital technologies.
- Support in preparing meeting summaries, presentations, and communications material.
- Help manage digital assets and resources relevant to artificial intelligence and data science.
