The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is the National Prosecuting Authority established by the Constitution of Kenya (2010) to institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person before any court other than a court martial in respect of any offence alleged to have been committed.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is the head of the ODPP and operates independently as stipulated under Article 157 of the Constitution. However, the DPP is required to be accountable to the public by presenting an Annual report to the President and Parliament on the performance of the ODPP. The DPP may also be required, on a need basis to present a report to Parliament on a matter of national or public interest.
The Office was previously a department in the Attorney General’s Office discharging responsibilities in the criminal jurisdiction for the Republic of Kenya on behalf of the Attorney General. The ODPP was delinked from the State Law Office in 2011 following the appointment of the Director of Public Prosecutions under the new constitutional dispensation.
Requirements for Engagement as a Pupil
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Hold a Degree in Law from a recognized university.
- Provide a Recommendation Letter from the Kenya School of Law confirming completion of the Advocates Training Programme.
- Submit an updated Curriculum Vitae.
- Provide a copy of the National Identity Card.
- Must have graduated from university no later than 2022.
- Present a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Personal Attributes:
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
- Exhibit a proactive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team handling challenging assignments within tight deadlines.
- Be proficient in computer applications.
Stipend:
A monthly allowance of
Kshs. 15,000.00
, as stipulated in the Public Service Commission (PSC) Circular Ref. PSC/ADM/14/V [108] dated 16th December 2016.
Terms of Service:
- Engagement will be on a pupillage basis.
Benefits:
- Pupils will not be entitled to leave, service gratuity, medical cover, or any other benefits.
