As part of the Government of Kenya’s broader strategy to foster youth empowerment and equip students with critical workplace competencies, Kenya Power is pleased to announce the availability of industrial attachment opportunities for the September to November 2025 intake. These placements are open to students who are currently enrolled in technical and non-technical training programs at recognized institutions across Kenya.

The internship initiative aims to support the professional development of continuing students by giving them hands-on experience in their respective areas of study. By working within Kenya Power’s diverse departments, selected interns will gain practical knowledge, understand the internal workings of a large utility company, and enhance their job-readiness in an increasingly competitive employment market.

This opportunity is tailored to promote skill-building, self-confidence, discipline, and exposure to modern workplace practices, all of which are crucial for future career success.

    Who We Are

Kenya Power and Lighting Company PLC (commonly referred to as Kenya Power) is a leading public utility responsible for the transmission, distribution, and retail of electricity across Kenya. Our commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and service delivery is matched by our investment in nurturing future professionals.

In line with our role as a national employer and key player in the energy sector, we open our doors each year to deserving students for short-term attachments, offering them a chance to become part of our dynamic workforce and to witness first-hand how Kenya Power contributes to the country’s economic development.

    Internship Categories and Eligible Programs

Kenya Power’s industrial attachment program is open to students pursuing the following academic qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree Students

    • Technical Programs (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, ICT)
    • Non-Technical Programs (e.g., Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Communication, and Legal Studies)

    2. Diploma Students

    • Technical Programs (similar to the above categories)
    • Non-Technical Programs in disciplines aligned with Kenya Power’s support functions

    3. Craft Certificate Students

Applicants must be enrolled in one of the following programs:

    • Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Power Option)
    • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
    • Building & Civil Engineering
    • Plumbing

The attachment program spans a period of three (3) months, commencing in September 2025 and concluding in November 2025. During this period, students will be placed in relevant departments across Kenya Power’s operations, based on their area of study and departmental availability.

    Minimum Requirements for Applicants

To be eligible for this industrial attachment, interested candidates must meet the following criteria:

    1. Full-Time Availability: Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the three-month program. Part-time availability will not be accommodated.
    2. Continuing Student Status: The opportunity is strictly for students who are still actively pursuing their studies (not yet graduated) and who require industrial attachment as part of their course requirements.
    3. Relevant Course Enrollment: Candidates must be enrolled in one of the academic programs listed above and should be undertaking their studies at a recognized institution accredited by the relevant regulatory bodies in Kenya.
    4. Institutional Introduction Letter: Each applicant must provide an official letter from their academic institution. This letter should clearly state the need for industrial attachment as a course requirement and confirm the student’s current academic status.
