nment of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to promote youth empowerment and skills development, Kenya Power and Lighting Company PLC (Kenya Power) is proud to announce its Industrial Attachment Program for the September to November 2025 intake. This initiative is part of our continuing commitment to nurturing young talent, advancing national development, and fostering a culture of learning and excellence among Kenya’s future workforce.

As a leading energy utility, Kenya Power recognizes the importance of bridging the gap between classroom instruction and real-world practice. This industrial attachment program offers a unique opportunity for continuing students in technical and non-technical disciplines to gain practical experience within one of the country’s most critical sectors — the energy and utilities industry.

Through this initiative, interns will be immersed in the inner workings of our organization, mentored by professionals, and exposed to the systems, technologies, and work culture that power homes, businesses, and industries across Kenya.

    About Kenya Power

Kenya Power is a publicly listed company primarily engaged in the transmission, distribution, and retail of electricity throughout Kenya. With a customer base of millions and an extensive grid infrastructure spanning the country, our mission is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electricity while driving innovation and efficiency in service delivery.

Beyond its role as a utility provider, Kenya Power is also a socially responsible employer that takes seriously its mandate to support national development. One of the key pillars of this responsibility is capacity-building through internships and industrial attachments, especially for young people preparing to enter the job market.

Each year, we open our doors to hundreds of continuing students, providing them with real-life exposure to the workplace and contributing to the development of a competent and employable Kenyan workforce.

Program Overview: What You Need to Know

The Kenya Power Industrial Attachment Program runs for a maximum of three (3) months, from September to November 2025, and is designed for continuing students who are undertaking studies in the following categories:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree Programs

    • Technical Fields: These include courses such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Telecommunications, ICT, and other related disciplines.
    • Non-Technical Fields: These include Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, Communication, Legal Studies, and related areas.

    2. Diploma Programs

    • Open to students studying both technical and non-technical courses aligned with the operational and support departments within Kenya Power.

    3. Craft Certificate Programs

    • This category is limited to students enrolled in the following technical programs:
      • Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Power Option)
      • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
      • Building and Civil Engineering
      • Plumbing

Interns will be posted to different departments and operational areas depending on the nature of their studies and the availability of space. Placements are competitive, merit-based, and subject to Kenya Power’s capacity to host and supervise interns effectively.

    Objectives of the Attachment Program

The primary objectives of this internship program include:

    • Bridging Theory and Practice: By providing students with an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, Kenya Power contributes to the holistic training of future professionals.
    • Enhancing Employability: The program equips interns with essential soft and technical skills, work ethics, and hands-on experience that significantly boost their employability.
    • Building Industry Awareness: Interns are introduced to the energy sector’s dynamics, helping them appreciate the role of electricity in economic development and public service.
    • Promoting a Learning Culture: Interns are mentored, challenged, and guided to develop critical thinking, discipline, and professional behavior — core attributes for any successful career.
    • Supporting Institutional Requirements: Many learning institutions require students to undertake attachments as part of their academic program. Kenya Power’s initiative helps meet this need.

    Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for placement under the Kenya Power Industrial Attachment Program (September – November 2025), applicants must meet all the following requirements:

    1. Continuing Student Status

    2. Relevant Course Enrollment

    3. Availability for Full Duration
      • Applicants must be available full-time for the entire three-month period. Part-time or remote availability is not permitted.
    4. Institutional Introduction Letter
