About the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea Team The Gulf of Aden and Red Sea (GARS) team of the GMCP operates from the Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA) in Nairobi. The team works extensively with states in the region, offering support in combating maritime crime. Their initiatives span Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Uganda, addressing key issues and enhancing regional capacities to counter maritime threats effectively.
Key Responsibilities As an intern with the GARS team, you will gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful work. Your responsibilities will include:

Document Preparation and Research
- Contributing to the preparation of background documents, presentations, summaries, talking points, and speeches.
- Conducting research on topics relevant to the programme’s objectives and focus areas.

Event Coordination
- Assisting in the preparation and organization of technical assistance workshops, meetings, high-level events, and conferences.

Meeting Support
- Attending meetings, taking detailed notes, and providing concise summaries.

Translation Services
- Translating documents and materials between Somali and English, ensuring clarity and accuracy.

Additional Support
- Performing other related tasks as assigned by professional staff within the GARS team.
What We’re Looking For We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and the ideals of the UN Charter.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Somali (additional UN languages are an advantage).
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in standard software applications.

- Internships with the United Nations are unpaid.
