About Us
The National Taxpayers Association (NTA) is an independent, non-partisan organization committed to promoting good governance and accountability in Kenya. Since 2006, NTA has led initiatives to enhance public accountability by monitoring the quality of public service delivery and the management of devolved funds. Our approach includes developing social accountability tools such as Citizen Report Cards, raising civic awareness, and strengthening citizen capacity through strategic partnerships with government agencies, service providers, private sector entities, civil society, and community action groups.
To support our mission, NTA offers an enriching internship program where interns gain hands-on experience in our key programmatic areas while working alongside a dynamic and passionate team. We are currently accepting applications for a Program Internship position based in Kisumu . This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals to gain valuable experience in public policy, governance, and advocacy.
Internship Responsibilities
As a Program Intern, you will work closely with the NTA program team to support various activities and develop your skills in:
- Project Activity Implementation: Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing project activities within different program areas.
- Policy Analysis and Advocacy: Conduct research and analysis on governance, public accountability, and policy issues to support advocacy efforts.
- Stakeholder Engagements: Assist in organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings, workshops, and training sessions with government agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities.
- Project Activity and Donor Report Writing: Support in drafting progress reports, donor reports, and documentation of program activities.
- Project Budget and Proposal Development: Assist in preparing project budgets and developing funding proposals.
- Social Media Engagement: Develop, execute, and report on social media engagement plans to enhance NTA’s visibility and outreach.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a motivated and passionate individual who is eager to contribute to governance and public accountability initiatives. The ideal candidate should possess:
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, Development Studies, Social Science, or a related field.
- Analytical Skills: Basic data analysis and visualization skills.
- Ethical Conduct: Strong work ethics with the ability to manage confidential data responsibly.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili, including proficiency in report writing.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
- Self-Starter: Passion for learning and taking initiative in assigned projects.
Internship Terms and Conditions
- Work Schedule: Interns are required to work three (3) days a week under the supervision of a designated staff member.
- Equipment Requirement: Interns must have access to a functional laptop for work-related tasks.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship ; however, NTA will facilitate costs directly related to executing assigned work.
