Call For Application of KeNHA TVET Scholarships

The Government of the Republic of Kenya (GoK) has secured funding from multiple international institutions, including the German Development Bank (KfW), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Union – Africa Infrastructure Trust Fund (EU-AITF), to support a major highway road construction project. This initiative is a significant step toward improving infrastructure in Kenya and promoting economic growth.

As part of this development, a portion of the funding has been allocated to support Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) for unemployed youth. This program is aimed at equipping young people with both practical and theoretical skills to improve their employability in various technical fields. The KeNHA TVET Scholarship will provide opportunities for Kenyan youth to undertake fully funded training in select courses, empowering them with technical skills that will enhance their employment prospects and economic independence.

Objectives of the Scholarship Program

The primary objectives of the KeNHA TVET Scholarship include:

  • Enhancing youth employability : By equipping young people with technical and vocational skills relevant to the job market, this initiative aims to increase their chances of securing meaningful employment or self-employment.
  • Bridging the skills gap : The program seeks to improve Kenya’s technical workforce by training skilled professionals in construction, mechanics, welding, electrical installation, and other vital fields.
  • Promoting economic empowerment : By providing skill-based education, the initiative aims to uplift youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, reducing poverty and fostering economic growth.
  • Supporting infrastructure development : Through the road project, trainees will gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting, ensuring they are well-prepared for industry demands.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the KeNHA TVET Scholarship, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Age Requirement : Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
  2. Basic Literacy : Candidates must be able to read and write.
  3. Educational Qualification : Applicants should have a minimum qualification of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). Those with diploma-level education or higher are not eligible.

Priority Groups

Preference will be given to applicants who fall within the following categories:

  • Orphaned Youth & Single-Parent Families : Individuals who have lost their parents or are from single-parent households will be prioritized.
  • Young Single Mothers : Young women who meet the qualification criteria and are raising children alone are encouraged to apply.
  • Persons with Disabilities : Applicants who have disabilities and wish to acquire technical skills will receive special consideration.
  • Low-Income Backgrounds : Youth from economically disadvantaged families and informal settlements will be given preference.

Scholarship Coverage

The KeNHA TVET Scholarship is fully funded and covers the following:

  1. Tuition Fees & Examination Fees : The scholarship will pay for the full cost of tuition and examination fees for all beneficiaries.
  2. Course Materials : Essential training materials and equipment required for each course will be provided.
  3. Monthly Subsistence Allowance : Beneficiaries will receive a stipend to cover personal expenses during the training period.

Dressmaking and Tailoring 6 Months KCPE
Electrical Installation & Electronics Tech. 6 Months KCPE
Metal Processing Technology 6 Months KCPE
Fashion Design & Dressmaking 6 Months KCPE
Computer Operator 6 Months KCPE
Electrical Wireman 6 Months KCPE
Welding (Electric Arc) 6 Months KCPE
General Fitter 6 Months KCPE
Light Vehicle Mechanics 6 Months KCPE
Plumbing and Pipe Fitting 6 Months KCPE

    • National Identification Card or Birth Certificate
    • KCPE Certificate
