The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is offering a rewarding internship opportunity for individuals interested in urban development, policy analysis, and sustainable city planning . The National Urban Policy Intern , based at UN-Habitat’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya , will support efforts to develop and implement effective national urban policies that promote sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities.
As an intern, you will assist in research, data collection, policy reviews, and the drafting of reports related to urban governance, land use planning, and sustainable infrastructure development. You will work closely with experts in urban policy to analyze trends, assess best practices, and contribute to the formulation of guidelines that support governments in designing effective urban strategies. Additionally, you may assist in organizing workshops, stakeholder consultations, and knowledge-sharing events.
The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in urban planning, public policy, development studies, geography, or a related field . Strong analytical, research, and writing skills are essential, along with an interest in urban development and global sustainability initiatives. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data visualization tools is an advantage.
