The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is offering a unique internship opportunity for individuals interested in geospatial data analysis, urban planning, and sustainable development . The Intern – Geospatial Data Analysis , based at UN-Habitat’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya , will support efforts to harness spatial data for informed decision-making in urban development and policy formulation.
As an intern, you will assist in collecting, processing, analyzing, and visualizing geospatial data to support projects related to land use planning, infrastructure development, climate resilience, and urban sustainability. Your role may involve working with GIS software, remote sensing tools, spatial databases, and mapping platforms to generate insights that aid in urban governance and planning initiatives. Additionally, you may contribute to the development of geospatial models, policy reports, and interactive digital maps that enhance data-driven decision-making at local and global levels.
The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in geospatial sciences, geography, environmental science, data science, urban planning, or a related field . Strong proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing tools, and data visualization techniques is highly desirable. Knowledge of statistical analysis, programming languages (Python, R), and cloud-based mapping platforms is an added advantage.
